Girls’ Rights Protection & Legal Support
Girls Support Center (GSC) works to ensure that girls are protected from all forms of abuse, exploitation and discrimination, and that survivors have access to justice.
Rescue & Protection Services
- Establish safe spaces or temporary shelters for girls escaping forced marriages, abuse or sexual exploitation.
- Provide emergency response mechanisms for at-risk girls.
Legal Aid & Representation
- Offer legal guidance and support to girls facing gender-based violence (GBV), forced marriages or denial of education.
- Partner with legal organizations and human rights defenders to provide free legal services.
- Assist in processing legal documents (e.g. birth certificates, national IDs) to protect girls’ rights.
Advocacy Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
- Conduct community dialogues and awareness campaigns on the impact of child marriage and GBV.
- Engage local leaders, religious institutions and cultural elders to advocate for the protection of girls.
- Strengthen reporting systems to ensure cases of abuse are properly documented and addressed.
Policy & Legal Reform Engagement
- Work with government agencies to influence policies that strengthen child protection laws.
- Advocate for strict enforcement of laws against child marriage, defilement and domestic violence.
- Monitor and report cases of human rights violations affecting girls.
Parental & Community Awareness on Child Rights
- Educate parents and guardians on the importance of protecting girls from harmful cultural practices.
- Train community leaders and teachers to recognize and respond to cases of child abuse.
- Encourage parental involvement in ensuring girls stay in school and are not forced into marriage.
Empowerment of Girls on Their Legal Rights
- Educate girls about their rights under Ugandan law and international conventions.
- Train girls on self-advocacy and reporting abuse without fear.
- Organize leadership programmes to build confidence and advocacy skills among young girls.
Hotline & Referral Services
- Set up a confidential helpline for girls to report abuse, seek legal assistance or get counselling.
- Strengthen referral pathways with police, healthcare providers and child protection agencies.
- Offer psychosocial support to victims of abuse and help reintegrate them into safe environments.
